Seeing who else is editing a file
Presence warnings show when another user has the same file open in the editor.
1. Open the file editor
Presence only appears on
/{owner}/{repo}/edit/...while you have maintainer access.2. Watch for the banner
If someone else is editing the same file on the same branch, a yellow Also editing: banner lists their display names.
3. Advisory only
Presence does not lock the file — coordinate with teammates to avoid overwriting each other's saves. Saves still use normal stale-base checks.
4. Heartbeat
The editor refreshes presence every 15 seconds while the page is open. Close the tab to drop off the list.
