Organizations, members, and roles

Understand org membership and what each role can do.

1. Organization scope
Repositories belong to an organization (shown as the owner in owner/repo URLs). You must be a member to see private repos.
2. Org roles
reader can browse code and issues. maintainer can push, edit in the browser, manage branches, and open repo settings. org_admin adds org-level administration such as repository deletion.
3. Global admin
Users with the global admin role can access /admin, create organizations, and manage all users regardless of org membership.
4. Create an organization
Global admins create orgs from Admin → Organizations with the create form at the top of that page. See Admin panel overview.
